You will need the following material:
- A router

Local router with internet setup
In this section, we will setup a single router connected to the internet using a SIM card. This router will give internet access to the medAL-hub and/or tablets. If you cannot access the internet on site and need a mobile hotspot, follow a different approach: Local router and smartphone hotspot setup. To achieve this, follow this procedure:
- Check the sim card’s phone number:
- Insert it in a phone.
- For VODACOM, call *106#.
- Select 1.
- Write it down.
- Insert the sim card in the router.
- Turn on the router.
- Connect your computer to the router (using an ethernet cable or Wi-Fi).
- Identify the router IP address. If you are on Windows, run the command:
ipconfig
And look for theDefault Gateway
IP address. - Write the IP address in the web browser url space and press Enter.
- Enter the default admin credentials (username should be admin and password should either be password or empty string).
- Change the router admin password. Strong password is highly recommended:
username: admin
password: Dain@m1c - Update the wireless ssid and its password to:
ssid: health_facility_dynamic
password: SbqCdzBoW8amSx - Save the configuration.
- Check that you have access to the internet.
- Buy the internet bundle. This can be done by inserting the SIM card into a smartphone, and adding funds to the SIM card.
- Check that you have access to the internet:
ping google.com
Local router and smartphone hotspot setup
In this section, we will setup a first router to offer a local network on site. This will allow the hub and tablets to communicate to each other. A second mobile hotspot connected to the internet will also be available to export data regularly. To configure the local router, follow this procedure:
- Turn on the router.
- Connect your computer to the router (using an ethernet cable or Wi-Fi).
- Identify the router IP address. If you are on Windows, run the command:
ipconfig
And look for theDefault Gateway
IP address. - Write the IP address in the web browser url space and press Enter.
- Enter the default admin credentials.
- Change the router admin password. Strong password is highly recommended:
username: admin
password: Dain@m1c - Update the wireless ssid and password to:
ssid: health_facility_dynamic
password: SbqCdzBoW8amSx - Save the configuration.
Finally, make sure you own a hotspot which connects to the internet and change the wireless ssid and password to:
ssid: mobile_dynamic
password: yicoxZ8afL2MX6
Credentials
- Local router's admin account:
username: admin
password: Dain@m1c - Local router's network:
