Tablet setup
Purpose and Scope
In this page, you will learn how to perform the basic setup of android devices. Note that this procedure is based on a Lenovo tablet. Changes occur when configuring tablets from other brands.
Prerequisite
Material
You will need the following material:
An Android tablet (runnin Android version 9 or 10)
A Wi-Fi with internet connection
An IT coordinator with a master tablet to allow parental control. Remember to never share the master tablet's credentials!
Android Setup
Android Setup on Lenovo Tablet
If you own a Lenovo Tablet, follow these steps to setup your tablet:
Charge the tablet’s battery until it reaches 100%
Choose English and press Start
Agree to the license agreement.
Skip the Wi-Fi connection for now (confirm it).
Setup date and time.
Accept the terms.
Skip the tablet locking process (Not Now & Skip Anyway)
Skip face recognition.
Skip Lenovo ID.
Accept user experience program.
Choose the classic mode for the navigation method.
You should now have access to Android.
Set screen timeout to 30min.
Android Setup on Samsung Tablet
If you own an Android Tablet, follow these steps to setup your tablet:
Charge the tablet’s battery until it reaches 100%.
Choose English and press Start.
Agree to the license agreement.
Skip the Wi-Fi connection for now (confirm it).
Setup date and time.
Accept the required terms, do not accept terms that are optional.
Skip Samsung account creation.
Skip security settings such as locking process.
You should now have access to Android.
Set screen timeout to 30min: Open the Settings app, navigate to Display and set Screen timeout to 30 minutes.
De-activate auto-correct: In Settings > General management, select Samsung keyboard and take off Predictive text.
MAC Address Setup
To check if the MAC address is set for the Dynamic Study network, follow this procedure:
Open Settings from the main app list.
Click on Connections, then select Wi-Fi.
Select your Wi-Fi, generally Dynamic Study.
Find and select Advanced.
Look at MAC address type:
If it is set to Tablet MAC, leave it and exit.
If it is set to Randomised MAC, change to Tablet MAC.
Applications Setup

This is a non-exhaustive list of applications you may need to install, but which are not directly related to the medAL-suite:
medAL-reader Setup
To setup the app used in the field by health care providers, follow this procedure:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to the following Wi-Fi network:
ssid: health_facility_dynamic
password: Check with an administrator to have access to the password.
Go to the Play Store.
Sign in with the following account:
email: dynamic.study.tz@gmail.com
password: Check with an administrator to have access to the password.
Agree to the terms.
Make sure to NOT backup the device to Google Drive.
Search for the medAL-reader app from Unisanté.
Install the app and open it.
On the login page, enter the following credentials:
email: dynamic.study.tz@gmail.com
password: Check with an administrator to have access to the password.
Click on Login.
Accept all permissions it may request.
Respiratory Rate App Setup
To install the Respiratory Rate application, follow these steps:
Go to the Play Store.
Search for the RRate app from PART BC Children's and install it.
Accept any permission it may request.
ODK Collect App Setup
To install the ODK Collect application, follow these steps:
Go to the Play Store.
Search for the ODK Collect app from ODK and install it.
Accept any permission it may request.
REDCap Mobile App Setup
To install the REDCap Mobile application, follow these steps:
Go to the Play Store.
Search for the REDCap Mobile App app from The REDCap Team at Vanderbilt and install it.
Accept any permission it may request.
QR and Barcode Scanner
To install the QR and Barcode Scanner application, follow these steps:
Go to the Play Store.
Search for the QR and Barcode Scanner app from Gamma Play and install it.
Accept any permission it may request.
Parental Control Setup (If Android did not when logging with Dynamic email)
To setup the parental control on your tablet, follow this procedure:
Go to Settings.
Search Parental control in the search bar.
Click on Digital Wellness & Parental control
Follow the steps to enable parental control. You must be able to communicate with your local IT Coordinator.
Apps Management using Family Link App
As an IT Coordinator, follow this procedure to update apps management from the master tablet:
Open Family link app.
Click on View > Manage Settings > Android apps > Any apps and turn on Allow app.
Under Permissions, allow the following applications:

RRate
ODK Collect
REDCap Mobile App
QR and Barcode Scanner
Camera
Play Store
Calculator
Office Mobile
PDF Reader
Google Calendar
